in Tribute & Memory of The King Of Pop:Michael Jackson

According to Nielson Soundscan Michael Jackson albums and Jackson related compilations hold the top nine positions on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog chart, all posting remarkable jumps in sales in the days following the singer's death. Jackson himself holds a record eight of the top 10 spots, while a Jackson 5 compilation also landed in the upper tier of the chart. His Number Ones greatest hits package leads the pack at #1, selling more than 108,000 copies, a staggering 2,340 percent sales increase. The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller follow at #2 and #3, selling more than 102,000 and 101,000 copies, respectively.

His breakthrough Off the Wallalbum is at #4, selling more than 33,000 copies nearly 30 years after it was initially released. The Jackson 5's Ultimate Collection is next at #5, with sales of more than 18,000 copies. His 1987 Bad album returns at #6 (17,000 sold);Dangerous is at #7 (14,000); HIStory — Volume 1 is at #8 (12,000); and the 2004 Jackson box set, The Ultimate Collection, lands at #9 (11,000).

The lone non-Jackson album in the top 10 is a reissue of the "Woodstock" movie soundtrack, which sold 8,000 copies to snag the #10 spot.

All in all, Jackson's solo albums sold more than 415,000 copies this past week, according to SoundScan, an amazing number, considering his titles sold a combined 10,000 copies in the week prior to his death. The one-week total is also nearly 40 percent more than what his catalog had sold in all of 2009.

Of the 415,000 albums sold, 58 percent were digital downloads, which means Jackson has set another record: He's the first artist to hold six of the top 10 slots on the Digital Albums chart, including the top four spots. He also holds a staggering 25 songs on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart, smashing a record set by David Cook last year.

Early SoundScan reports have the Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. claiming the top spot on next week's Billboard's Top 200, with sales of more than 88,000 copies. If that figure holds true, this week marks the first time that a catalog album has sold more copies than the album that sits at #1 on the Top 200.

Kanye West, a Guru of more than music!

Adding to his sneaker line, upcoming fragrance and frequent blogging, the rap star is using his 'personal artistic vision' to inspire a line of mojo-booster beverages with Guru Beverage Co. The company claims he will be active in the development process of the new drinks.

'I express myself through music, fashion, art and design and that's why I am excited to collaborate with Guru; because the brand values what I value, and I can put what inspires me into this new product,' West said in a statement.

The company's beverages are 100 percent natural and organic and can be purchased at Whole Foods Markets.

West faces some heady competition on the energy drink shelves—Lil Jon, Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan, Hulk Hogan, Jeff Gordon and T-shirt brand Ed Hardy also have cheeky chuggers.

T.I. Sentenced To One Year and One Day

The self-proclaimed King of the South will rise again. In about 366 days' time.

As expected, T.I. was sentenced today to one year and one day in Georgia prison as part of his plea deal with prosecutors over a 2007 felony weapons charge.

'Today I would like to say thank-you to some, and apologize to all,' the rapper said.

'Everything I learned was through trial and error. I've learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won't make the same mistakes as I.'

The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., is required to voluntarily turn himself into prison within the next 30 to 60 days, but is not expected do so before May 19.

Northern Georgia District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., who praised the artist for exceeding the expectations required from his plea deal, acknowledged that T.I. had commitments that prevented him from being jailed before the May date.

It's unclear where he will serve his time, though court officials acknowledged that he would be receiving credit for the 305 days he already spent in home detention.

New iPod shuffle features VoiceOver

The store is back, and the rapid rumor ramp-up is vindicated: Apple introduced a new iPod shuffle this morning, billed as 'the first music player that talks to you' -- it features a VoiceOver interface that announces artists, songs and playlists on demand (the iPod nano features spoken menus as well, so that tagline may need some work).

Interestingly, the VoiceOver UI concept was mused upon by John Gruber last month. The shuffle now supports multiple playlists, which would have been difficult to manage without some sort of UI for controlling which one is playing.

The new shuffle expands to 4 GB of storage for the same $79US, but in the course of shrinking the overall size of the microscopic MP3 maven down to 1.8' high, 0.7' wide and 0.3' deep (45mm x 17mm x 7.8mm), the player controls were moved onto the headphone cord. This may not sit well with buyers who prefer other earbuds.

The shuffle is available in black and silver and is shipping in 3-5 days.

Flo Rida Kicks Some Eminem Butt

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Flo Rida is in a definite sunshine state of mind after taking down Eminem.

For the second time in just over a year, Flo Rida has set a new record for digital downloads, as his new single, 'Right Round,' was downloaded a whopping 636,000 times last week, per Nielsen SoundScan. The rapper topped his own record. His 2008 track 'Low' held the previous mark with 467,000 downloads.

'Right Round' also set a new record for a digital debut, topping Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre's 'Crack the Bottle,' which scored 418,000 downloads just last week. Likewise, Flo Rida's new track displaced Em & Co.'s single at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.

Plant and Krauss Surprisingly Dominate Grammys

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant and bluegrass singer Alison Krauss dominated the Grammy awards, grabbing five prizes for their groundbreaking rock-country collaboration 'Raising Sand'.

On a night of drama in which pop singer Rihanna withdrew from a scheduled performance, other big winners included rapper Lil Wayne, who took four awards and British supergroup Coldplay with three.

'I'd like to say I'm bewildered,' Plant told the audience at the Staples Center after winning the coveted album of the year and record of the year with bluegrass icon Krauss.

'In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday.

Chris Brown & Rihanna; What A Shame! On Grammy Day

His world may be in upheaval, but Chris Brown is holed up in a Hollywood hotel, keeping quiet.

While information continues to trickle out about what was apparently an ugly dispute between the R&B star and his girlfriend, Rihanna, one of his major sponsors, gum maker Wrigley, is distancing itself from the 19-year-old 'Forever' singer.

Although the Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement Sunday night saying Brown had been arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and could face additional charges now that the case had been forwarded to the district attorney, prosecutors tell E! News that the announcement was premature and the investigation is ongoing.

'LAPD are telling some reporters that we received the evidence but we have not received anything yet,' says Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the county district attorney. 'Normally it would come in today, maybe this afternoon, but no, they haven't presented it and I don't know when they will.'

Robison says that the probe is still continuing—unusual for such cases—as detectives want to make sure they do a thorough job given that a celebrity is involved.

Brown's camp, including newly hired criminal attorney Mark Geragos, has remained mum on the incident.

50 Doesn't Have To Give Up 50!"Million"

As far as 50 Cent's baby mama is concerned, the rapper's money train has left the station.

A Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice today dismissed a $50 million lawsuit brought against the artist by former girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins, who was attempting to obtain half of 50 Cent's assets after claiming the rapper promised to take care of her for life.

Justice Carol Edmead dismissed all 15 claims brought by Tompkins, with whom he has an 11-year-old son, calling the case 'an unfortunate tale of a love relationship gone sour.'

'I'm very thankful for this decision,' 50 Cent said. 'I knew that once the facts were heard that justice would prevail. I hope now that we can put this behind us and move forward with our lives.

Oasis leads UK awards nominations

"Veteran Brit rockers Oasis are leading all other challengers with 7 nominations ahead of this year's NME Awards in the UK. However, a few of the nods could be seen as a bit frivolous including Best Band Blog and Best Dressed for band member Noel Gallagher. Next in line with 4 mentions are both American bands, this year's breakthrough heroes Kings of Leon and one of the hottest new alt-rock bands of 2008, Vampire Weekend. Other bands snagging top nominations include British legends Radiohead and 2 more American bands, The Killers and MGMT."

Significant Hottie:Beyonce

"Beyonce, emotional about singing for the pres."

"Beyoncé may have been able to fight back the tears onstage while singing 'At Last' for Michelle and Barack Obamas' first dance at the Neighborhood Ball. But afterwards, when she described how amazing it was to be a part of this historic occasion, she couldn't contain her emotions for very long."

"Ahh, Britney Being A Mom"

Intimate New Year's Eve snaps show happy Britney in mum mode: "Britney Spears has repeatedly said being mum to Jayden James and Sean Preston is the most important thing in her life. And the happiness the little boys bring was obvious in intimate family snaps recently posted on the singer's website.

Smartly dressed in suits accessorised with bow ties and waistcoats, two-year-old Jayden and his big brother Sean, three, posed with their famous mum in the photos taken over New Year.

The happy trio rang in 2009 with the rest of the Spears' clan by celebrating the wedding of the singer's elder brother Bryan in the family's home state of Louisiana.

Shortly after the photos were taken Britney and the boys, plus her parents Lynn and Jamie, headed to the New Orleans ceremony where Bryan, 31, tied the knot with 36-year-old Graciella Sanchez, manager of the singer's younger sister, Jamie Lynn.

'It was very beautiful,' a source told People magazine. 'It was only close family, very small and intimate.'"
