Sanyo ships new Xacti camcorders

Sanyo's line of Dual Cameras -- which are described as camcorders at heart with formidable still capture capabilities -- is now shipping to select retailers in the United States and Mexico. The crew is comprised of the VPC-FH1, which handles 1080p at 60fps along with 8 megapixel stills, and the VPC-TH1, which shoots at 720p and sports a 30x optical zoom. Also included is the waterproof (up to ten feet, anyway) 720p VPC-WH1 and the otherwise vanilla VPC-CG10. As for pricing? Try $499.99, $299.99, $399.99 and $199.99 in order of mention.

2010 Chevy Camaro Will Get Decent Mpg

Now that the 2010 Chevy Camaro is finally ready to hit dealerships, details like the car's official EPA estimated fuel mileage and its estimated run to 60 mph are beginning to hit the interwebs. Good news: Both are impressive. According to The General, the 304-horsepower direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 engine that's standard in the LT and LS models will achieve 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 mpg in the city with the six-speed automatic, or 17 mpg with the six-speed stick. V8 models also perform more efficiently than expected, with figures of 16 city and 25 highway (24 with the automatic transmission).

Those numbers are better than what the Camaro's muscle car competition can muster across the board. Its eco-victory likely won't last long, however, as the new 2010 Ford Mustang offers carryover engines from the last model year that we expect will be replaced for the 2011 model year with more efficient powertrains, maybe even a twin-turbo, direct-inject EcoBoost V6.

OLEDs To Treat Skin Cancer?

Engadget: "Lumicure claims to be making progress in using OLEDs to treat skin cancer

by Donald Melanson, posted Dec 19th 2008 at 2:54PM
The folks at Lumicure have been talking up OLEDs as a potential tool to treat skin cancer for a few years now and, while they still don't exactly have a whole lot to show for themselves, they're now claiming that they're making 'excellent progress,' and that they actually hope to have a product on the market by the fourth quarter of 2009. That progress is apparently due in large part to the $5 million in funding they received earlier this year although, again, they don't seem to be saying how that money is being put to use. The basic technology, first shown off more than two years ago, consists of a band-aid-type device that's connected to a battery, which lets the patient wear the device all day long, and is apparently more cost-effective and less painful than other methods of treatment. Apparently, the company is so pleased with its progress that it's already starting to focus on its next target: acne."

New Palm App Store

Cell phone news, reviews, discussion: Wireless info from PhoneNews.com: "Palm has unveiled a new version of their PocketGear based Application Store software which is now available for more than 25 Windows Mobile devices and Palm OS based devices.

What is different about this application is that they are no longer relying on venerable partner Handango to serve up applications for users and offering up a more centralized experience for downloading free and paid apps.

The storefront features over 1000 free applications and over 5,000 applications and games for Palm OS by ACCESS™ and Windows Mobile in an easy to navigate storefront compatible with many devices, no longer confined to the Palm device lineup.

Palm is aiming to refocus the perception of Palm devices as little more than appointment books with cell phones to fully fledged mobile computing devices that once dominated the smart device landscape and are now in direct competition with RIM and Apple."
